This is the only entirely fresh song on the project. Penjamin Franklin wrote the hook & his verse, then sent us the concept. J Gray definitely went his way with it & I went an entirely different direction. It all works though. Personally, I've been consistently frustrated & jaded with the "music industry." Eventually, it breaks you down. That was my headspace when attacking this.
lyrics
VERSE I (G O A T)
started this thang many years ago
the passion was hot, now the flame is cold
never dreamed it would change & lose the glow
100% committed to the weather though
through the clouds & rain & the lightning bolts
the ice & sleet & the blinding snow
throw me floods & mud & I'll juggle those
if you're addicted to the highs, you better LOVE the lows
give attention to one & the other grows
all green grass fades, the fence never holds
it's time to uproot, move, & rediscover hope
it's been one long helluva dusty road & so...
CHORUS (Penjamin Franklin)
thanks for the time, but I'm done - I'll keep the memories
sick of fightin' all the time, sharing broken hearts & injuries
ridin' every line until we crossed it individually
so done with it all, baby, i just want the memories
the good times & smiles, baby, I'll just keep the memories
thanks for your time, but I'm done - I'll keep the memories
thanks for your time, but I'll leave - just taking memories
I'm so done with it all, baby, I just want the memories
VERSE II (Penjamin Franklin)
of course I appreciate a moment for what it is
& the light that came about from all the darkness deep within
& my right to think about it however I choose to feel
& to pick up all my broken pieces start to rebuild
& learn from my mistakes, then grow 'em to some different lengths
with full progression forever be my only intent
I'm sorry I'm to blame, but I can't help the way it ends
it's like none of us can change the weather patterns of the wind
& see we blown apart as far as two ships can get
thanks for your time, I'll take the memory, alleviate risk
it seems so long ago, that's simply because it is
& you think that we was grown, but nope, we not even friends, damn
CHORUS (Penjamin Franklin)
VERSE III (J Gray)
my first mind intends to murder you verbally
as the monster I became the day you turned on me,
but then it just occurred to me this hurt in me is nothing compared
to them stairs you helped me carve out vertically (to the One I am)
and that's a purpose that I certainly missed
when I first admitted that you held me under cursedly
burdened with addiction after pleasure, which you offered wouldn't fix me and I'd only place my focus on the worst of things,
but I burst at seams now with a dream that seems more simple & free
& I don't trip at why nobody's ever heard of me
you put me in my place...grateful to be nobody now
watching this karma come around in perfect circuitry...yeah
CHORUS (Penjamin Franklin)
