We wrote this song intentionally different to showcase Elle more. First of all, it was crazy how the music came together. three6t had a loop (which ended up being part of the chorus section). He shot it to me, I wrote a piano part and verse section, and it came together nicely. The lyrical concept was personifying freedom.
lyrics
HER NAME WAS…
VERSE I
in silence...I hear him
calling to my heart
his presence...I feel it
tearing me apart
this magnetism is too much bare, I'm scared
when two lives are entwined in one and some
will never have the chance to share this kind of love
the knot that's been tied will never be undone
CHORUS
it’s a shame when 2 people are singin’ the same song,
but they can’t harmonize – it makes it feel all wrong
the rhythm’ll come when the timing is right
gotta keep the beat movin’ ‘til the future is hindsight
she timidly said her name was freedom
he replied it was a pleasure to meet her
it seemed that they met each other in a past life,
but they parted ways immediately after their last fight
VERSE II
I apologize for the things I said
I'd rather be free than a slave to this
you showed me the truth of an angel's kiss
and frankly, I'm scared of your angles miss
I hope some day, we can both laugh at
the time long ago, memories of a flashback
past life where you saved my pride
and fix the skip of my heartbeat and
my heart bleedin' pride is what caught your eye
it's what thought arrives, as I depart goodbye
for now I'm gone and this love got cold
I shoulda tried harder, but it just got old
so go now...be free and fly, keep our dream alive
and keep movin' the beat for life
CHORUS
it’s a shame when 2 people are singin’ the same song,
but they can’t harmonize – it makes it feel all wrong
the rhythm’ll come when the timing is right
gotta keep the beat movin’ ‘til the future is hindsight
she timidly said her name was freedom
he replied it was a pleasure to meet her
it seemed that they met each other in a past life,
but they parted ways immediately after their last fight
